My Talk :)

So today in sacrament meeting, I was the youth speaker, along with a returned missionary and one of the members of our ward. I have a feeling that I should put my talk up on my blog, so here it is :)

***************************************************

In a talk given by President Monson in the 2009 October General Conference, He recalled this story:

“A few years ago I read an article written by Jack McConnell, MD. He grew up in the hills of southwest Virginia in the United States as one of seven children of a Methodist minister and a stay-at-home mother. Their circumstances were very humble. He recounted that during his childhood, every day as the family sat around the dinner table, his father would ask each one in turn, “And what did you do for someone today?” The children were determined to do a good turn every day so they could report to their father that they had helped someone. Dr. McConnell calls this exercise his father’s most valuable legacy, for that expectation and those words inspired him and his siblings to help others throughout their lives. As they grew and matured, their motivation for providing service changed to an inner desire to help others.” Close Quote

Let me reiterate: “And what did you do to help someone today?”

In our busy lives, running to-and-fro, we often feel that we are too busy, or we think, “someone else will do it.” Now, let me say this now, I am not exempt. I too often feel “too busy” to give service to someone. But it doesn’t have to be this big service project you see us, the Young Women and the Young Men, doing. It could be as simple as saying Hi to someone and spending a few minutes talking to them, or setting a few cookies aside from your batch for a neighbor down the street. Look at Dr. McConnell's family. Those children for at least a while, gave small bits of service to others because they were very young, like holding doors and picking up something that was dropped. Being a Cellist, I appreciate it very much when a kind Youth Symphony member holds the door for me because I have my Cello in one hand and my music in the other.

One of my favorite service projects in Young Women needed little preparation. We did a pizza service project. Our leaders called a few different members and asked if we could come over Tuesday night to do a 5 minute service project in return for some pizza toppings. We were split into 2 groups and were given a list of names. We ran around the different neighborhoods doing service and collecting pizza toppings. At the end of the night, we met back at the church house and made our pizzas. For me, service (and our pizza) never tasted as good as it did that night.

My favorite hymn is "A Poor Wayfaring man of Grief," hymn number 29. I'll be reading verses 1,6, and 7.

1)A poor wayfaring Man of grief
Hath often crossed me on my way,
Who sued so humbly for relief
That I could never answer nay.
I had not power to ask his name,
Whereto he went, or whence he came;
Yet there was something in his eye
That won my love; I knew not why.

6)In pris’n I saw him next, condemned
To meet a traitor’s doom at morn.
The tide of lying tongues I stemmed,
And honored him ’mid shame and scorn.
My friendship’s utmost zeal to try,
He asked if I for him would die.
The flesh was weak; my blood ran chill,
But my free spirit cried, “I will!”

7)Then in a moment to my view
The stranger started from disguise.
The tokens in His hands I knew;
The Savior stood before mine eyes.
He spake, and my poor name He named,
“Of Me thou hast not been ashamed.
These deeds shall thy memorial be;

Fear not, thou didst them unto Me.”

This hymn is related to two scriptures, the first one being Matthew 25: 31-40. In Matthew it says:

"31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee asick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

It goes on to say that those who did not give service to others were punished. A verse that is closely related to it is Mosiah 2:17 (it also happens to be the second scripture reference to the hymn). It says there:

"...when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."

Serving others is a blessing! To me, it feels like I'm the one receiving service. Yesterday I had the oppertunity to serve and to be served. In the morning, I helped clean out the basement with other ushers at the Idaho Falls Symphony Office. When we were done, it looked so much cleaner and we all felt really good about it. Later that day, some of the bretheren in our ward came and helped us move some of the bigger items out of our apartment and into our new apartment. It was such a blessing for my family because we did not have the equipment ourselves to move them. Thank you to those brethren.

I now ask you what have you done to help someone today? Even in our busy, hectic lives, we can all stop for a few moments to help someone in need. Hope you keep that question in our heart always, as I will now do.

I'd like to bear my testimony. I know the church is true, and that without it, I don't know where I would be. The Church is so important in my life. I know that the scriptures are true and that Jesus Christ really did atone for our sins and that though Him we can return to live with our Heavenly Father again.

Amen.

Foto Friday- Day 2- How to look like a zombie without even really trying!

Well, I see none of you voted on my handy little blog-gadget! :P I posted this on my Facebook and I got two votes for zombies and zero for vampire, so zombie it is!

Note: When I started this, it wasn't midnight yet! haha :)

Step 1:

Click on the "Featured" tab. Scroll down to where you see the "Reanimated" section. Click on "Ghoul Eye"!

Step 2:

Arrow 1 is pointing to the color of eye that you can make your eyes. Arrow 2 is pointing to the brush size. Adjust the brush size to the size of your pupils. Read about Arrows 3 and 4 (glaze and fade) on the "About Ghoul Eye" box on the photo. Apply when done!

Step 3:

Click on Zombify 2.0. Arrow 2 is pointing to what color you can change your skin to, arrow 3 is pointing to brush size, arrow 4 is pointing to decay, and arrow 5 is pointing to fade. It will help to read the description box that I put next to my photo. Start painting!

**Note, my skin looks a bit different than yours will because I put 2 layers on. I accidentally clicked apply before doing a screen capture, so I applied it a second time.

Step 4:

Yes, I cropped the photo inbetween steps 3 and 4. I added a nice finishing touch by rounding the corners.

Finished product:

Taaaaaa daaaaa! :D Don't I look scary? :D

Well, that's all for now. I might do a vampire one tomorrow if I have time, because I had really set my cap to doing it haha :) Plus next friday I am going to be really busy getting ready for my Youth Symphony concert!
Have a great day and don't forget your camera!

Moses and the children of Israel and our Spiritual Journey

Today in Seminary we talked about Moses and the children of Israel. We just did a overview today. The rest of the week we will be studying more in-depth. :D Studying the old testament has been such an awesome experience!

We decided that we wanted to take a picture of the board because Brother Russell wrote it so nicely **coughcoughprojectorcoughcough** haha ;) We compared their journey to our spiritual journey. You all should read what the boards say! :D

Sunrise, Sunset!

I know it's 12:30 am, but because I haven't gone to bed yet, I still think it's saturday. :) Here is my photo today. I took it a few years back. I found it today and did a bit of editing to it. :)

"Don't be fooled into thinking that a
sunrise is really a sunset!"

We were driving back from Utah. This was probably around Pocatello area. :) It was actually a sunset just so you know. :) Don't forget your camera!

Foto Friday-Day 1- How to make something (like an instrument) POP!

I have decided to make Fridays "Foto Friday". That's where I show you how to do your photos like mine :D Sometimes, its just by sheer luck that I get a photo the way I want it, other times it's more deliberate. Today, I will show all of you how to make something (like an instrument or person or other object) POP!

I'm going to use this photo: (it is also seen in this post)

***Note: I am using Picnik for this. I do not know how to do it anywhere else!***

You can do this with any photo, and of course you can experiment after step 6. :)

You can also click any photo on the post here and it will just pop up and will be alot bigger. It will not open in another tab unless you right-click on it and open it up another tab.

Eagle Rock Junior High and Skyline Highschool Orchestra Concert! (Oct. 13, 2011)

I just realized that I didn't post last night! :O I remember what I was going to post about, but I guess I never posted it...

Well, last night, the Eagle Rock Junior High and Skyline Highschool Orchestras had their first concert! :D Unfortunately, I was not apart of it... Things just didn't work out with online school this year. :/ I did go to the concert though, and they all did GREAT! :D My camera decided to be a pain last night though... I got a few different photos, but I only video taped 2 of the songs. My camera wanted me to reformat my card like 5 times... and then the battery over-heated... then it needed to be reformatted again... I swear that whenever I want to video tape a orchestra concert, it goes on the fritz! xP Gah! Well, anyway, I want to show you a cool photo I got and then edited once I got home.

The Skyline Orchestra!
Don't they look awesome? It's because they are! They are amazing and they did so great at the concert last night! :D Makes me really really REALLY sad that I'm not with them this year... :/ If they had a party to celebrate, they all totally deserve it :D (And Orch Dorks always have an orchestra party after a successful concert! It's tradition!) :)

Well, hopefully I can get the 2 videos up soon for all of you to see. :) Maybe I'll put a second post up later tonight. Well, I gotta run! Have a great day and don't forget your camera! :)

Hey it's my 4th post IN A ROW!! :D *Virtual high-five to whoever is reading this* haha :) Soooooooo.... I'm stumped... Hey I know! You know my favorite artist, Steven Sharp Nelson? Well he came out with this FANTASTIC and AWESOME video of "Nearer My God to Thee" for 9 CELLOS. Let me repeat, 9 CELLOS!!!!!! Now how cool is THAT? :D Though, if you wanted to play it in sacrament meeting, how would you fit all 9 Cellists up there? O.o haha I'm sure I would find a way! :) And because I love you all SOOOOOO much, I will put the link right here. I'll even embed it in here, so you have no excuses for not watching it. :D

Most awesome video everrrrrrrr!!
Next to Moonlight, of course!

Preview for a new element on the Blog! :)

So, I have been debating over the past few months to create a page on this blog that is like www.mormon.org. I have finally decided to do it! :D It's a work in progress, but here is a little screen-shot for you all to see:

Now, who is excited for this? ME! :D I think you all will like it!

That's all for now! :)

Hey I remembered! :D

Well, I must be doing good if I remembered to post the 2nd day in a row! :) Not much went on today, so I'll just post a pic or two from summer vacation that you might like. :D

The first 4 photos were taken at West Piney Girls Camp. We were up there for ward campout. (Mom didn't let me take the camera to girl's camp this year. Boo-hoo!)

Sunday, October 9, 2011

Hey there!

I just realized that I have neglected my blog for a few months and left you guys on a few cliff hangers! I know I'm a terrible person and I am SO sorry! I'm sure you will forgive me though. :) I have just been so dang-crazy-busy lately, you know? School, seminary, taking care of Beth, eat, sleep, and repeat (and much more in between!)! I'm just going to put a few photos up and resolve one of the cliff hangers today though, because today is another busy day!

Now, to resolve the cliff hanger of what Beth wore to her baptism:

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

My little Sis is growing up! :D

This next Saturday (and the Saturday after that), is going to be very special for my family :D You see, my little sister is turning 8 and getting baptized. :D The 30th she will turn 8 (they day after I get back from Girl's camp!), and on the 6th she will get baptized. :) She doesn't seem that old! And she is so tiny too! Our cousin (who just turned old enough to be a Priest) will baptize her. It's going to be a special event! She will then be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! :D

But, I need your help!

We have 3 different dresses, and we can't decide on which one. I am going to post pictures and I would like you to vote on them to help me and my family. Of course, it's Beth's decision, but it might help if we have some tips and advice.

ThePianoGuys, Steven Sharp Nelson and Jon Schmidt!

So, as you know, I play the Cello. I've gotten to meet a few amazing Cellists as well. One of them is Steven Sharp Nelson! (I would link you to his site, but it's been compromised again. :/ If you are willing to go though, it is http://www.stevensharpnelson.com) I first got his Sacred Cello CD in Christmas 2009 I believe. I got it at the Deseret Book store in my area. I got it because I haven't been able to find very many LDS Cello CDs. I immediately fell in love with his music! As I have gotten more familiar with his music, he has become more of a star in the eyes of the world. He has recently teamed up with ThePianoGuys. ThePianoGuys is a music dealer in St. George, Utah. They decided to combine their video-making skills with the amazing artists who were coming though their store. You might recognize their name because they won YouTube's on-the-rise channel contest last month. Steven is just one of the many.

Moonlight! It just came out this week! :D
I first got to meet Steven a few months ago up in Rexburg where he was playing with Paul Cardall. Before hand, I had just really met him online though email, you tube, and Facebook. Let me tell you, when I met him in person, I was so excited my hands were shaking! I was like a little girl meeting one of those Disney stars... I even brought my camera! But I was so excited I forgot to get a picture! (I think that can tell you how excited I was, because, you know me, a complete shutter bug!) It was a great concert though! :D It was mainly about Paul, but he let Steven and Marshal McDonald play for a few minutes. Let me tell you, I was in laughing fits the entire time! XD Let me write a portion of what I wrote for my journal entry that day:

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Hey there!

Hi there everyone! I just thought I would let you know that I was still alive. :) I'm writing a kinda-long blog post, so that is why I haven't blogged in a while... I have gotten some awesome photos though! I think you will like them! :D

Before and after!
rainbow!! :D
Yesterday we had a rainstorm, and afterwords, there was this stunning rainbow! :D Of course, you can tell it was edited... but it still looks pretty cool! :D

I've started to use the Picnik photo editor as well as Befunky. Fotoflexer seems to be down though. :/ They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I hope you like how I re-did the blog as well. I really didn't like the way it looked. I really like it now, and I hope you like it too! (Especially because I figured out how to create more than one page! :D yay!)

My Cello!

So, if you don't know already, I will tell you now.

I play the Cello! :D I'm pretty good too (Well, that is what everyone else says. I still need alot of work though...)! I love my Cello (I'm not trying to be artificial here either). It has a sweet tone, and it's like, one of my best friends! I can always go to her (yes, she is a she) when I'm mad or sad and I'll talk to her and play music and I feel alot better! Her name is Timpani. If you know anything about music, Timpani is actually a type of drum that can change pitch. I wrote a little story about it:

Once upon a time, in a not-so-little town in the United States, there lived a Cello player named Bekah. When she was a 7th grader, she went to early morning symphonic orchestra. Now Bekah was incredibly thick and nieve at the time (and still is ocassionally). Her orchestra teacher, Mr. Bull, said, "Ok, TIMPANI is right here." For a few weeks Bekah thought Timpani was a person who never came to Symphonic, but must have had great importance. Then a little while later, she thought Timpani was the musical term for a drum roll. But her thoughts them turned back to having Timpani as a person. After about 2 months of waiting for Timpani to show up to Symphonic, Rebekah went up to Mr. Bull after symphonic and asked him, "Mr. Bull, WHO IS TIMPANI??" "Bekah," he replied as he tried so hard not to laugh, "Timpani is a drum! Not a person!" She stood for a few seconds, letting it sink it, then exclaimed, "OH! Timpani is a drum!" and immediately burst into laughter. Everyone looked at her dumbfoundedly, wondering why she didn't know.

A year later, when she bought her first Cello, she named it Timpani because of the happy memorie of symphonic orchestra.

Now they use her Cello instead of the actuall drum. (jk jk jk jk!!)"

I've come a LOOOONNNNNGGG way since then, but I really like the name Timpani too! I'm going to show you some photos that I have taken of my lovely Cello too! :)

(I've recently added the "RT" at the end, because, you know, they are my photos! You can use my photos, just comment on the post below and please give credit where credit is due.)

:)

Yep, that's me! :D It really is! (And no, it is not photo shopped!)

Well, I hope to be able to give you all some videos of me performing, but for now you will just have to visit my YouTube site! It has me playing by myself, me singing by myself, and the orchestra that I am in!

Well, that is all for now! See you soon!

School is almost out!!

The school year is almost over (Can you believe it??? I know I can't!)!!!!!! I'm sad too! I become a secluded hermit over the summer! I'm going to miss my friends, and seminary, and orchestra, and and and... :'O It makes me depressed! (you can tell I'm a bit of a social person... hehe) I don't do alot over the summer! Where I live, you can't get a job till you are 15 (like restaurants and stuff like that). I don't turn 15 till the summer is half way over! Many people aren't willing to hire either :P In the past summers, I've ridden my bike all over the place and went to girls camp (oh and last year we had a dance festival). Sometimes we travel too.

Well, this blog is about my life, through a lens, so I will give you some photos!

This one is our orchestra group. (which, BTW, you can follow here) I'm totally going to miss these guys once summer starts! They are amazing! Annnnnddddd next year 1/2 of us will be at Skyline! (well, maybe not half, more like 12 out of 15!) (and just so you know, I'm the 4th in from the left on the back row). These guys are like my 2nd family! Did I already say that they were amazing?

So, I LOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE Cherry Blossom trees! They are so beautiful! Lots have been blooming here, so I have been in heaven for a while.I carry my camera pretty much everywhere, so while going to school the other day, I took some photos! :D I edit them with a photo editor called befunky. It's not too bad, though if you don't have a premium membership, it has 3-4 ads (that change every 2-3 minutes) and you can't use the cool stuff... But it is pretty nice!

(same photo, different style!)

Well, that is all for now. I need to get some sleep! lol! :D See you all later!
